Roy Taylor Spurlock, Jr., 74, of Beaufort, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born August 3, 1944 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Colonel Roy Taylor Spurlock, Sr. and the late Helen Jane Stevens.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Melanie Gamache Spurlock of Beaufort; his son, Steven T. Spurlock; two daughters, Janet L. Kortman (Brian) of Pasadena, Maryland, and Lisa S. Brown (Craig) of Beaufort; five grandchildren, Regan Murphy Reichard (Derrik), Kira L. Murphy, John T. Murphy, Tyler K. Kortman and Jessica N. Kortman, and one brother, David G. Spurlock (Carol) of Titusville, Florida.

Roy formerly worked for the Department of Defense, was a former manager of the Customer Service Department at Giant Food, worked for Maryland Food Dealers Association where he set up conventions and lobbied for the small grocery stores, sold advertising for Food World, sold insurance for the Knights of Columbus, was a real estate agent for Exit Realty and Flamelilly Real Estate Group and worked as a funeral assistant for Copeland Funeral Service. He also started his own t-shirt business and did his own art work.

Roy enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, sailing and singing in the church choir. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy.

He will be remembered for his warm smile, the twinkle in his blue eyes, his sense of humor, and his love of family.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Copeland Funeral Service – One Copeland Drive. At 6:30 there will be a Knights of Columbus service followed by a prayer service.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 o’clock Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
