Terry Walter Stone, Lieutenant Colonel United States Marine Corps (Retired), 83, of Beaufort, husband of Diana Lynn Stone, died Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Retreat at Lady’s Island.

Terry was born in Oakland, California and was a son of the late Lee R. and Lucille Marie Padfield Stone. He graduated from Jay, OK High School, in 1960, from Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, in 1966 , and Pepperdine University, in 1977.

In April 1966, Terry joined the United States Marine Corps. While serving, Terry attended the following schools, Officer Candidate School, Artillery School, Amphibious Warfare School, and Naval War College. Terry also received the following awards: Republic of Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Devices, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Devices. In 1989, Terry retired from the Marine Corps.

Terry was predeceased by his first wife the late Donna S. Stone (1966- 1994), a grandson, Greer Stone (2006), and his brother 2nd Lieutenant USMC Larry G. Stone who was killed in action in Viet Nam on May 22, 1967. If you’d like, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to “The Larry Stone Award” EOSC, (1301 W. In addition to his wife of the home, Terry is survived by two daughters Shannon Dykes and husband Keith and their sons Hampton Dykes and his wife Logue, and Hogan Dykes and his fiancée Annie Moore; Ashley Kuehne and husband Erik and their children, Reagan and Cassidy; and one son Todd Stone and wife Kim and their daughter Kirsten Ansley Stone, sons Griffin Carr Stone and Grisham Calloway Stone two step sons David Fry and Michael Fry and wife Angela and their daughter, Sierra. In addition, Terry is survived by his sister, Sherri Frederick and her husband Roger, as well as their children and spouses and grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Terry will be held 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2026 at Community Bible Church. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery, with United States Marine Corps honors. Following the burial, the family will return to the church, where they will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon.
