Obituary

Terry Walter Stone, Lieutenant Colonel United States Marine Corps (Retired), 83, of Beaufort, husband of Diana Lynn Stone, died Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Retreat at Lady’s Island.

Terry was born in Oakland, California and was a son of the late Lee R. and Lucille Marie Padfield Stone. He graduated from Jay, OK High School, in 1960, and from Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, in 1966 with a B.S. in Business/Accounting, and Pepperdine University, in 1977, with a M.S.

In April 1966, Terry joined the United States Marine Corps. While serving, Terry attended the following schools, Officer Candidate School, Artillery School, Amphibious Warfare School, and Naval War College. Terry also received the following awards Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal with 4 Devices, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Devices. In 1989, Terry retired from the Marine Corps.

Terry was predeceased by his first wife the late Donna S. Stone (1966- 1994) and a grandson, Greer Stone.

In addition to his wife of the home, Terry is survived by two daughters Shannon Dykes and husband Keith and Ashley Kuehne and husband Erik; one son Todd Stone and wife Kim; two step sons David Fry and Michael Fry and wife Angela; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service for Terry will be held 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2026 at Community Bible Church. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery, with United States Marine Corps honors.
