Sandra Joan “Joann” Capps Thacker, 85, of Ridgeland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Bishopville, South Carolina, Joann was the daughter of the late Hartwell L. and Annie Belle Coleman Capps. She built a life defined by devotion, strength, resilience, and a deep, unwavering love for her family and the Lord.

Joann married Darrell L. Thacker, on April 8, 1977, and together they shared 49 years of partnership and steadfast commitment. She was a woman whose strength was matched only by her kindness, and whose presence brought comfort to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert Wayne Pray; her siblings Frances Capps King, Hartford (H.F.) Capps, Furman Capps, and Doris Capps; and her granddaughter, Amanda Warner Horton. Their memories were held close to her heart.

Joann leaves behind a legacy of love through her husband, Darrell; her children David A. Pray, Pamela Pray Doughty (David), Ronald F. Pray (Tracy), Kimberly Pray Buller (Scott), and Clement J. Pritchard (Renee); her stepchildren Darrell Thacker Jr. (Vicki) and Dennis Thacker (Tammy); and her brother, Roger Capps. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren—Alyssa McTeer Carter (Jeff), William Doughty (Brandie), Whitney Warner Kincaid (Jason), Nicole Warner, Jesse Johnson (Amanda), Ronald Pray, Jared Lewis (Taylor), Brianna Lewis Suber (Logan), Larry Thacker (Kristen), Steven Olmstead (Carrie), Katelyn Thacker, Collin Thacker (Kelly), and Mackinzie Thacker—and thirty-one great‑grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

To her family, Joann was the heart of every gathering, the keeper of stories, the giver of wisdom, and the steady hand that guided generations. Her laughter, her gentle spirit, and her fierce love will continue to echo through the lives of those she leaves behind.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, at Copeland Funeral Service.

A funeral service celebrating Joann’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, at Copeland Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
