Morise “Skip” Robinson passed away at home on May 20, 2026, at age 83, following a heroic fight against multiple health issues..
Skip was born in Brooklyn, NY in September 1942, the older son of Henry and Elizabeth Robinson. He grew up in Somerville, MA where his father was a physician with a successful family practice and clinic; his mother was an operating room nurse, and later, a loving wife and mother to her family. Her sister, Margaret Gregg, was also part of the household and was beloved by Skip. He graduated from Belmont Hill School and went on to Bowdoin College where he made life-long friends, and where hockey was a keen interest. Skip truly loved the beauty of the English language—a Master of Arts in English Literature at Boston University led to teaching English Lit at Bentley College and Brandeis College, and, later in life, to the publication of several books of fiction.
Skip’s expertise, however, was in the boat business. He had many fond memories of boat trips with his father and his family while growing up in Boston and summering on Cape Cod. After his dad passed in 1968, Skip owned and operated Onset Bay Marina, a full-service marina and repair yard in Onset, Massachusetts for twenty years, where he had many loyal customers and friends. It was there that he met his beloved wife of 43 years, Annie, who eagerly followed him on all of their many professional opportunities and adventures. Skip was recognized as a leader in the boating industry and was active in many of the industry organizations. Among his many jobs and accomplishments, Skip ran the Palmer Johnson Yachts refit and new construction yard in Savannah and Malta, was part of the management teams at both Hodgdon Yachts and Southport Boats in Maine, was a yacht broker for Merle Wood and Associates in Fort Lauderdale, was a business consultant and a real estate developer.
He was an avid snow skier; he and Annie skied in Maine, New Hampshire, at multiple resorts in the West, and in South America. They kayaked at Grand Lake Stream in Maine, and at Lake Greenwood in South Carolina. He loved to watch Tom Brady play football. Skip swam as often as possible at the Wardle Family YMCA. His cancer diagnosis in 2018 slowed him down, but he persevered. He loved Ella Fitzgerald, all things opera, and attended summer performances of the Boston Symphony Orchestra faithfully.
Skip was predeceased by his outgoing daughter from his first marriage, Candace Nicole Vieira. He is survived by his adoring wife, Annie, his granddaughter Lexus Robinson- Matthews and his great grandson Keanu Anthony (New Bedford, MA), his brother Dr. Donald Robinson and his wife Caroline (Colorado Springs, CO), their four children, as well as his two German Shepherds Zoe and Nadia.
Skip is remembered for his quick wit, his engaging smile, and his mentoring personality. He reconnected with his Catholic upbringing in later years which gave him strength and comfort; he was confirmed in 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Beaufort, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church (Lady’s Island) on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. Please consider a donation to Palmetto Animal League of Okatie in lieu of flowers. The family is planning a Celebration of Life in September. An inurnment will take place at Newton Cemetery, Newton, MA.
Copeland Funeral Service is assisting the Robinson family with arrangements.
