James W. Bukoffsky, affectionately known as “Ski” or “Boo,” was born on July 4, 1957, in Salem, Ohio, to Joseph and Kathleen Bukoffsky. James departed this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his residence.

James was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bukoffsky, and his brother, Jay Bukoffsky.

James attended the public schools of Salem, Ohio. He proudly served in the United States Army for 13 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his military career, he was assigned as the Senior Instructor at the United States Army Drill Sergeant School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

After leaving the military, James was trained and certified as an Ohio Peace Officer, serving for two years with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. In 1990, he joined the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, where he served until 1998. He then accepted a position as Master Patrolman with the Beaufort Police Department, serving until 1999, when he returned to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Throughout his distinguished law enforcement career, James served in numerous roles, including Patrol Officer, Assistant Shift Supervisor, Criminal Investigator, Criminal Investigations Supervisor, Northern Enforcement Branch Master Sergeant, Northern Enforcement Branch Operations Lieutenant, Northern Enforcement Branch Captain, and ultimately Major, serving as Assistant Commander of the Enforcement Division. He retired in 2022 after decades of dedicated service.

James leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Yvette Bukoffsky; his children: James A. Bukoffsky, (Kathy) of Slocomb, Alabama; Kathy  Tindal of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; Lukas Bukoffsky; and Amanda Bukoffsky of Beaufort, South Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ethan, Jacob, Jason, and KaJuan.

He is further survived by his loving mother, Kathleen Kittinger; his siblings: Joe Bukoffsky (Tammy) of Canton, Ohio, John Bukoffsky (Stephanie) of Carson, Virginia, and Barbara “Barb” Zwick (Ron) of Bolivar, Ohio; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 noon, Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Copeland Funeral Service. Following visitation, a memorial service for James will be held at 12:00 noon at Copeland Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery with United States Army honors.
