LADY'S ISLAND - Francis A. "Al" Spiers of Lady's Island died on Friday, August 7, 2015.
Born January 26, 1929 in Altoona, PA, Al was the son of F. A. Spiers and Lorraine Root Spiers. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in W.W. II on the USS Ault and was recalled for the Korean War in 1950, where he served on the USS Shelton.
After his discharge he worked for various insurance companies as a Claims Adjuster. In 1963, he went to work for Chrysler Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA, retiring as a Service Development Manager in 1987. In July 1989, Al moved to Beaufort, SC.
Al is survived by his wife Rebecca "Bunny" and daughter Denise Evangelisto and husband Gary; and a sister Loretta Scheiter and husband Gene of Altoona.
The family will receive friends 10:30 a.m. until 11:15a.m., Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 13th at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lady's Island. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery with Navy Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Franciscan Center, P.O. Box 682, St. Helena Island, SC; or to St. Peter's Catholic School.
