Everette Maxwell Hill,

d. March 30, 2016

The grand life and treasured love of Everette Maxwell Hill, Sr. is being celebrated by his adored and adoring children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous and beloved nieces and nephews in Beaufort, SC. where he lived in constant joy and intellectual curiosity. Ev spent most of his life in Greene County. He lost the absolute love of his life, Zeta Shumaker Hill, in 1994. He lived with the fervent belief that he would someday be reunited with her. That glorious reunion occurred on July 5th at about 10 in the morning. All who had the privilege of meeting him were deeply touched by his kind and incomparably sweet spirit and perpetual smile.  He spent most of his working life at the Mather mine in Greene County. Ev was recently recognized by the United Mine Workers of America as, perhaps, at 81 years, the longest continuous dues paying member of the union ever. He was a devoted member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church. From his early youth and throughout his time in western Pennsylvania he passionately roamed the fields, woods and streams of Greene County in search of game and fish. He loved the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.  He spent the winters of his youth and young adulthood playing hockey on Mud Run and the Mather reservoir. He played on every baseball and softball team ever gathered in the Mather and Jefferson area. Those who knew him will attest to his natural athletic skills. These passions were passed on to many of his adored progeny. He was the embodiment of the "positive mental attitude". To those who had the privilege of knowing him: please honor his wonderful life by embracing your faith and your life and loving and hugging your family at every single opportunity. If you wish to make a memorial contribution in his name, please do so to the Employees Fund of the Bayview Nursing Home, Beaufort, SC  in care of Melissa McFeeley, 4942 Tidal Walk Lane, Ladys Island, SC 29907. A memorial service will be held 10:30, Friday, July 8th at Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
